For myselfYou are the one looking. That is the hard part done.
Shift is a virtual intensive outpatient program in California. It sits above a weekly therapy hour and below a hospital bed, you attend it by video from home, and you do not have to disappear for a month to do it. This page is for the person reading it about themselves.
Between a weekly therapist and a hospital.
Weekly therapy is one hour against a week that has 168 of them. Residential treatment takes the week and the month with it. Intensive outpatient treatment is the level in between: several weekday sessions, group and individual work, a treatment plan a licensed clinician signs, and a clinical review of whether the level is still the right one. Shift delivers it at ASAM level 2.1, by video, under California Department of Health Care Services certification 191663AP.
The honest version of the commitment.
Weekday cohorts in the morning, the afternoon and the evening, so the program can sit beside a job rather than on top of it. What it needs from you is the hours and a private room, and we work both of those out with you before day one.
What you get
- Group sessions on weekdays, with the same group week to week.
- Individual therapy with the same clinician, not a rota.
- Psychiatry on the team for co-occurring mental health.
- Ambulatory withdrawal management for low-risk withdrawal.
- Family sessions if and when you want them, not by default.
What we will tell you straight
- If you need a higher level of care, we say so and help you find it.
- We do not promise an outcome, and we publish no outcome statistics we have not measured.
- We read your plan and give you a cost figure before your first appointment, not after.
- We do not pay for referrals, in either direction.
- Substance use treatment records carry the stricter protection of 42 CFR Part 2.
We read your plan before you commit to anything.
Covered by many PPO plans. We check your benefits first.
Shift bills most major commercial plans on an out-of-network basis. We are not part of any commercial carrier network. We read your plan, turn the out-of-network terms into the dollar cost of a week of treatment, and give you that number before your first appointment. Nothing is committed until you decide.
Pages for specific cards: Aetna, Anthem, Blue Shield of California, Cigna, UnitedHealthcare, UMR, Carelon, Magellan, Kaiser.
From this page to your first session.
Four fields. No clinical questions on a web form.
We ask for a name, a way to reach you and a good time. We do not ask what you use, what you have been diagnosed with or where you have been treated, because a web form is the wrong place for any of that. The clinical conversation happens with a clinician.
- California, virtual. There is no building to visit.
- We read your plan and give you the number first.
- No cost-share waivers, and no promises about your outcome.

Got it.
We call back from (646) 275-2111. If it is time-sensitive, reach us directly instead of waiting.
Call (646) 275-2111If you or someone you are with is in immediate danger, call or text 988 (the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline) or call 911. Shift Support Network is an outpatient program and is not an emergency service.
Answered without the sales voice.
Do I have to stop working to do this?
No. That is the reason this level of care exists. There are weekday cohorts in the morning, the afternoon and the evening, and the program is built so that one of them can sit beside your working week rather than replace it.
What if I am not sure it is bad enough yet?
A licensed clinician does a screen against the ASAM Criteria and tells you which level of care fits. Sometimes weekly therapy is the right call, and when it is, we say so.
Do I have to tell you what I use before you will talk to me?
Not on a web form, and not to get a call back. The form asks for a name, a way to reach you and a good time. What you are dealing with is a conversation with a clinician, not a dropdown.
Who finds out?
We report nothing to an employer, a family member or anyone else without your written consent. We cannot control what a health plan's own claims or utilization reporting shows a plan sponsor, and we will not pretend we can. Substance use treatment records carry the stricter protection of 42 CFR Part 2, which is a higher bar than ordinary medical records.
What does it cost?
We do not know until we read your plan, and we will not invent a figure. We are out of network with commercial carriers. We pull your out-of-network behavioral health terms, turn them into the cost of a week of treatment, and give you that number before your first appointment.
What if I need more than this?
Medical detox in a bed, residential treatment and acute psychiatric stabilization all need a building. If the clinical screen says that is what you need, we tell you and help you find it rather than admit you to the wrong level of care.
