For UPS & Teamsters members

Mental health support without taking 30 days off the book.

Virtual care for the stuff that builds up after a long tour: stress, sleep, drinking that crept up on you, family tension. Three hours a day, from home, around your dispatch and your hall calls when possible. Your H&W fund probably already covers it.

Who this is for

If any of this sounds familiar, this is for you.

You can be a driver, a package handler, a feeder driver, a mechanic, a sorter, a clerk, an inside worker, or any other Teamster at a sister employer. You're an adult. You know what's going on. This page is just here to make the next step obvious.

Rotating shifts wrecked your sleep

You haven't had a full night's sleep in months. You wind down with two or three drinks because nothing else works fast enough.

Dispatch is grinding you down

Telematics on every move. PCM in your ear. You're snapping at family by the time you get home. The pressure stops being a job and starts being a state.

Family stuff is catching up

Your kid asked why you're "different now." Your spouse is tired. You're tired of being the version of yourself that comes home after a tour.

The drinking is louder than it used to be

It started as "just to come down after a tour." Now it's most nights. You've thought about cutting back and it didn't stick. We treat people with a substance use disorder. You're not a category. You're a person who came to look.

Why your fund probably covers this

Federal parity law says your fund has to cover mental health and SUD care at the same level it covers anything else.

Under the Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act (MHPAEA, 42 U.S.C. § 1185a), group health plans, including Taft-Hartley multi-employer H&W funds, must cover mental health and substance use disorder benefits on terms no more restrictive than medical/surgical benefits.

In practice, that means our two core programs are typically covered services under your fund:

  • Intensive Outpatient (ASAM 2.1) — three hours a day, three to five days a week. Group, individual, and psychiatry combined.
  • Outpatient (ASAM 1.0) — weekly individual and group, step-down or stand-alone.

Cost to you is whatever your plan's normal mental health or SUD cost-share is. We verify the exact number with your fund before anything starts.

Central States H&W Fund

Multi-employer fund covering hundreds of thousands of Teamsters across the country. Behavioral health is a covered benefit.

TeamstersCare (UPS-IBT National Plan)

The H&W plan covering UPS package-car drivers, feeders, and inside workers represented by the IBT. Mental health and SUD covered under parity.

New England Teamsters & Trucking Industry H&W Fund

Multi-employer fund for Teamsters across New England trucking employers. Behavioral health covered.

Teamsters Local 25 H&W Fund (Boston)

Boston-area Teamsters H&W. Behavioral health covered.

Teamsters Local 705 H&W Fund (Chicago)

Chicago-area Teamsters H&W including UPS drivers under the Local 705 supplemental agreement. Behavioral health covered.

Teamsters Local 396 Funds (Carson, CA)

Southern California Teamsters H&W. Behavioral health covered.

If your fund isn't listed here, that doesn't mean you're not covered. It means we haven't worked with a member from that fund yet. We verify coverage in 24 hours, no commitment. Western Conference of Teamsters members: check your H&W trust separately from your pension trust. Coverage is verified before anything starts and is never a guarantee of payment by your fund.

What treatment actually looks like

Three hours a day. From your kitchen table. Around dispatch when we can.

No 30-day disappearance. No facility. No box of belongings to bring. The program is built for working people who can't drop out of life for a month.

1

Intensive Outpatient (ASAM 2.1)

Three hours a day, three to five days a week. Most members are in the program eight to twelve weeks. Group therapy with other working adults. Individual therapy with a licensed clinician. Psychiatry as needed. Medication management for alcohol or opioid use disorder where clinically appropriate.

2

Evening & weekday cohorts

Evening IOP groups available for members on day routes. We schedule around dispatch, hall calls, and rotating shifts where the cohort allows. You don't lose your bid. You don't lose your hours toward pension. You don't lose your seniority.

3

Step down, not step out

When you're ready, you step down to weekly outpatient (ASAM 1.0) inside the same program with the same clinician. No new intake, no new portal, no new clinician learning your story from scratch.

What stays private

Your employer doesn't see it. Your local doesn't see clinical detail. Your pension hours are protected.

Substance use treatment records are protected by 42 CFR Part 2, a federal rule that is stricter than HIPAA. Your records cannot be disclosed to your employer, your union, your fund, a court, or anyone else without your written consent for that specific disclosure. There is no general "the boss can see" disclosure.

Your local sees that you're a member in good standing. Your employer sees that you're working. Your H&W fund sees a claim line the same way it sees any other medical claim. Your pension hours are governed by your CBA, and a covered treatment claim does not show up as a leave or a job action.

If you ever need a return-to-duty letter (some safety-sensitive Teamsters jobs require this under DOT regs), we provide one through the channel your CBA and your employer's DOT policy require. You control what goes where.

42 CFR Part 2 protection

Substance use records held to a stricter federal standard than HIPAA.

Your CBA protects your hours

Pension and welfare-hour contributions are governed by your collective bargaining agreement. Covered treatment is not a job action.

Family-only sessions on request

If you want a spouse or adult family member at a family session, you choose. They don't see your individual sessions.

DOT return-to-duty supported

If your job has a DOT safety-sensitive component, we coordinate the SAP-defined paperwork through your employer's process.
