For first responder programs

Refer a member to a program that runs after shift.

For department peer support teams, chaplains, wellness coordinators and union representatives. Virtual intensive outpatient by secure video, evenings or mornings, so a member starts without relocating.

You send the referral. We carry the benefit check, the assessment, the authorization, and the updates the member consents to in writing.

What comes back to you

What we handle.

Referral
Two minutes on the referrer form, or call and we take it over the phone. A clinician calls you back the same business day.
The page for the member
Send them the first responders page, written for the member rather than the referrer.
Benefit check
Free, by phone, usually the same business day. The member gets the number before the first appointment.
Plans we work with
Job, union and self-bought PPO plans. We are out of network with all commercial carriers. Medicaid and Medicare are not eligible for this program.
Clinical assessment
A licensed clinician completes the assessment and documents the level-of-care decision on the ASAM Criteria.
Records
Substance use records are protected under 42 CFR Part 2. No information goes to an employer without written consent.
Updates back to you
Attendance and progress go to the recipients the member names in a written consent.
Scope
Substance use treatment for people in California. Mental health care for members in California, New York and New Jersey.
Oversight
Medical Director Charles Carpenter, MD. ASAM 1.0, ASAM 2.1 and ambulatory withdrawal management under DHCS certification 191663AP.
An honest no
If the member needs a higher level than outpatient, we say so on the first call rather than taking the referral.
If someone is in crisis, call or text 988, the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. Call 911 if there is immediate danger. Shift is an outpatient program and is not an emergency service.
Questions peer support asks first

Plain answers.

What are the group times?

Evening groups run Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, 5:30 to 8:30 PM Pacific: a two-hour IOP group, then a one-hour process group. Morning groups run Monday, Tuesday and Friday, 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM Pacific. Both tracks are 9 group hours a week plus a weekly individual session. Afternoon groups are arranged at intake.

What do we tell a member about privacy?

Substance use records are protected under 42 CFR Part 2. No information goes to an employer without written consent, and the consent names what we release and to whom.

Can a member start without taking leave?

The evening track sits outside a day shift, and afternoon groups are arranged at intake. A member attends by secure video from a private room, so there is no travel built into the week.

Which insurance works for this program?

Job, union and self-bought PPO plans. We are out of network with all commercial carriers, and the benefit check is free by phone, usually the same business day. Medicaid and Medicare are not eligible for this program.
